Moran Equipment

Creating a website to handle hiring, employee time-off, requests, and other HR logistics.

Project Overview

The team at Moran Equipment manages over 80 oil field workers at four locations in Oklahoma and Texas. The workers need solutions that handled their clock-in and clock-out, as well as paid-time-off, and vacation management. There are lots of tools out there, but instead of using several—the best option would be a custom app that did it all.

The Challenge

The scope of work for this project began with just a simple redesign for the company’s website. Upon meeting with the Moran Equipment management team on several occasions, however, it became evident there were several pain points at the company in their internal management and HR that could be helped with technology. In addition to web designers, we took on the role of strategic tech advisors to help solve problems they were facing related to growth.

Our Approach

In order to make sure the website achieved its objective of communicating digestible information, we needed to be clear on what was important to the target audience. The main points to consider include:

  • Communicate clearly the services of the oil field company
  • Highlight how this is a long-term pillar in the Western Oklahoma community
  • Encourage the job application process on the website in an easy-to-follow way
  • Highlight the safety priority that Moran Equipment puts on all its jobs

With these points in mind, our team created a well-designed website that would appeal to both potential members and existing ones, and be easy to use.

UX & WEB DESIGN
Creating Design Systems

After content strategy, we carefully worked on the UX design system to create a strong brand and reusable elements that would stand the test of time, look modern and fresh, and appeal to users.

Well-planned Web Architecture

After the public-facing website was built, we worked on architecture and planning for the internal application. Moran Equipment needed to manage their onboarding process, which includes accepting job applications and helping the new employees fill out insurance and safety information. They also needed a notification system to make sure employees are up-to-date on safety certifications.

Our Content Strategy Phase Includes:
  • Discovery & User Needs Analysis
  • Estimates for Task
  • User Story Personnas
  • Website Architecture
  • Website Wireframes
  • Agile Sprint Development
APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT

Moran Equipment’s new web app combines functionality from three prior apps they used to give staff a seamless experience. They also save thousands on third-party software bills.

The Results

We built a system that is running strong 4 years into production for the Moran Equipment team. They regularly use the onboarding system to hire new employees, keep track of safety classes, and market their company. We have engaged with them for ongoing support for the last several years, and we consider it an honor to continue to team up with this community-oriented company.

WORDPRESS DEVELOPMENT

Application Development

In addition to the development of the WordPress theme, we also developed the custom application to handle backend employee management. We worked on top of Gravity Forms and other member platforms, highly customizing the functionality with code specific for the needs of Moran Equipment. The end result is a clean, fast, light-weight tech stack that is able to grow with the ongoing needs of the company.
